Bell Street Market, located at 300 Main St. in Yale, has been open since August of 2012. The combination grocery store and deli is open from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday. Read more »

Various species inhabit the wetland areas of Dunbar Slough in western Greene County.

The Dunbar Slough State Wildlife Management Area, at the moment, is a 2,134-acre public wetland complex, nestled within the Prairie Pothole Region and managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as wildlife and hunting areas. But advocates are working to have the area designated as a National Wildlife Refuge, drawing federal funds to purchase more land and expand the area — eventually including both public and private land and greatly expanding the space available for wildlife habitats and hunting. The owners of Abigail Annie’s actually run three businesses. Russell owns Interiors By Mardi; Moylan owns Painter’s Shingle; and they both run Abigail Annie’s. The store, located at 310 E. Main St. in Panora, is open from 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. During the open house to celebrate 15 years, Friday and Saturday, snacks and drinks will be served, and items will be available at 15 percent off.

The downtown commercial building at 205 N. Wilson Ave. has stood vacant and fallen into some disrepair. Tuesday night, the Jefferson city council approved the city’s acquisition of the building’s deed — as well as $5,000 from the former owners for rehabbing — making the property the first from the recent Empty Building Tour to be acquired.
