The Audubon City Council approved a hearing on an application for voluntary annexation for a property that owners plan to build a truck stop on. The property, located at 2079 Highway 71 - just north of the cemetery and west of the airport - is owned by Lawrence Handlos. Read more »

The “hot topics” have changed since Greene County Development Corporation hosted its first town hall meeting last August. Ground hadn’t yet been broken on the Jefferson Hy-Vee store and the walls were still being erected on Wild Rose Jefferson. Those projects are completed and the tagline for the Sept. 28 meeting, “It’s been a great year – What’s next?” was aptly chosen by GCDC executive director Ken Paxton. Brian Handlos and John Anderson are planning to develop this area on the south edge of Audubon, currently home to DR & KW Transtor, for a 30-room hotel, restaurant/cafe, truck stop and wash.

A full service truck stop including gas and diesel services, a convenience store with fast food, a 24/7 cafe, 30-room hotel and more was proposed for the south edge of Audubon during the Audubon City Council meeting on Monday. Officials with the project have requested that the city annex the property in order to provide additional revenue for the city and water and sewer services for the truck stop. Read more »

The board of the Greene County Development Corp. held an open discussion of specific long-range projects to which the members wanted to assign priority status in the next two or three years. GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton said the list “represents some very important opportunities that fill some community needs which will have a large impact on future economic development in the county.” Read more »
