A 33-mile extension of the Raccoon River Valley Trail from Herndon to Waukee received a major boost this week with the announcement of nearly $810,000 was awarded to five towns along the trail as well as the Dallas County Conservation Board. Read more »

Iowa DOT Commission, meeting in Bettendorf today, awards $484,995 from the State Recreational Trails Program. This means RRVT supporters have raised $850,000 in three months for the required ”match” for the earlier $1.6 million Vision Iowa grant. PRIDE, the Panora Area Development Group, extended its first loan to Joel and Lisa Hester, owners of J&J Meats and Catering and Extreme Cycle. The Hesters used the low interest easy payment loan plan to improve the exterior of their J&J Meats and Extreme cycle business building. Read more »


Some 350 World War Two veterans from Iowa, including seven from Greene County, will be going on the next Honor Flight to visit the Wold War Two Memorial in Washington DC, on Oct 13. And a group of Greene County donors are buying caps for the entire contingent on the plane. Read more »


Nichols Farms, Bridgewater, ranked as largest in registering the most Angus beef cattle in Iowa having recorded 270 head of Angus with the American Angus Association during fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, according to Bryce Schumann, CEO of the American Angus Association. Read more »


SCI TOO LLC has purchased the buildng at 122 NE Second Street in Stuart with the intention of buildng a movie theatre, and 61 seats have been sold. In order to proceed, the inital goal was to sell 50. The final goal is to sell all 85 seats planned for the theatre, and to have all the seats sold with the funds in the bank by Thursday, October 15. Local bowlers are lacing up their shoes and polishing their bowling balls. Today and tomorrow Panther Lanes in Creston will be busy with 260 area bowlers. Special Olympics volunteer Dr. Dennis Hopkins says it starts at 9 o'clock and end around 3 Friday. Saturday's competition begins at 9 and ends around 3 in the afternoon. Read more »
