Guthrie County Vedette, May 22, 2008
The Guthrie County Community Foundation, represented by board members Chris Arganbright and Ken Baker, presented a check for $7,500 to Lisa Grossman, Panora City Administrator, and Cheryl Castile, Streetscaping Committee Chairperson. The grant completes the funding of the committee's task to install benches, trash receptacles, and flower containers to enhance the new sidewalks and street now nearing completion in Panora's downtown area.
Castile commented, "In addition to the foundation's contribution, more than $13,000 has been received for the project from 14 individual families, three businesses and six organizations. This project truly has shown the effectiveness of a community working together."
The Guthrie County Community Foundation principally is funded by State of Iowa gambling tax revenues. For the 2007-2008 fiscal year, the foundation has been able to enhance and financially contribute in excess of $50,000 to more than 15 Guthrie County projects.
The foundation also is working on growing a Guthrie County Endowment Fund where a certain portion of the annual state remittance is reserved for the endowment and only earnings from the endowment may be used for area projects. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to contribute funds to the endowment through gifts that are tax deductible. Contributions would live through perpetuity.
