Karlin’s Cruise For Comfort Food Brought him to Bett & Bev’s BBQ in Jefferson Steve Karlin, the well-known newscaster from KCCI Channel 8 is traveling Central Iowa showcasing restaurants in a series called, "Cruisin' For Comfort Food." Today, May 11, 2009, he visited his third of four stops in Central Iowa, Bett & Bev’s Barbecue in Jefferson. Watch the 10:00 p.m. news tonight to see the full story or visit KCCI’s website atwww.kcci.com.
Karlin is doing this series as one of the ways that KCCI is helping with the local economies in Iowa. Karlin said, "In this economy many people are looking for things to do closer to home." KCCI knows there is a lot to do and see around Iowa and by showcasing restaurants with great atmosphere, food and service they hope to show Iowans a few of their choices.
Bett & Bev’s BBQ was chosen as one of the four stops because many people e-mailed KCCI with comments of Adam’s excellent slow-cooked barbecue and great Iowa décor. Karlin said the two main reasons for choosing Bett & Bev’s were the endorsement from Meteorologist John McLaughlin’s brother Mike, who owns New Way (Scranton Manufacturing) in Scranton and often eats there, as well as, Adams mother-in-law who wrote a glowing letter and sent many photos depicting the Greene County and Iowa history décor of the restaurant.
As I visited with Karlin about the value that Adam brings to Jefferson with his outstanding barbecue, I mentioned that I was especially glad that Adam chose to start his business in Greene County where he grew up instead of taking it someplace else. Karlin exclaimed after taking a big bite of his frappe pie, "You are very lucky he chose to be here because with this food, he could be successful anywhere!"
