Employer Educator Summit

50% of Iowa’s jobs require workers with Middle Skills. But only 33% of our workforce has those skills.

The Employer Educator Summit aims to gather businesses, educators, economic development professionals, workforce development professionals, and community leaders to share success stories and information on various statewide resources, in order to strengthen the future workforce.

2017 Summit Registration NOW OPEN

More than 200 employers, educators, workforce and economic development professionals, government officials, and students are expected to come together from around the state for the upcoming Employer Educator Summit on Wednesday, October 4th.  Last year's Summit in Jefferson proved to be successful in turnout and inspiration for attendees to bridge the workforce gap by engaging students with early initiatives to prepare them for the diverse workforce. This year's Summit in Denison will be a continuation of those efforts, highlighting successes from the past year and showcasing innovative programs throughout the state. The Employer Educator Summit agenda will feature a number of speakers and round table discussions, all-the-while playing up this year's theme of creating a "Recipe for Workforce Success."

Tentative Agenda (9 am - 3 pm):
  • Finding Your Recipe - Welcome, Evan Blakley
  • Gathering Ingredients - Future Ready Iowa, Beth Townsend
  • Mixing it Up - Success Story Panel: Businesses, Workforce Warrior Award Recipients
  • A Little of This, a Little of That - Communications, IowaWORKS Staff
  • Kick it Up a Notch - Keynote, Brenda Clarke Hamilton
  • Not Just Your Family Dinner - Lunch & round table discussions
  • It's All in the Presentation - Keynote, Brenda Clarke Hamilton
  • Keep Your Fork - Success Story Panel: Educators, Workforce Warrior Award Recipients
  • Dish It Up - Closing, Evan Blakley

Western Iowa Advantage (WIAD) and IowaWORKS invite both educators and businesses to submit applications for the Workforce Warrior Awards, to be featured at this year's Employer Educator Summit in October. The awards aim to highlight successful programs within the WIAD Region  that create or enhance collaborative relationships between schools and businesses. Ideal programs connect students to local businesses to foster a better understanding of career possibilities and needed skills, in order to develop the local talent and future workforce.

The award includes a $500 stipend to be used to further the goals or results of the partnership. Winners will share their program as a part of a panel discussion at the Summit.

To be eligible, a program must already exist or be planned for the current school year, and be located within the WIAD Region of Adair, Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie, Ida, and Sac counties.

Applications are due September 8th. More information:
